Transforming Client Transitions to Web2: Pioneering UX Systems Embraced by Millions
After the success of ONBK, I ventured into consulting for various companies and organizations, leveraging my expertise in research, design, and creativity to transform traditional Web1 businesses into Web2 entities. Based in Manhattan, I collaborated with leading organizations, addressing technology, branding, and early Web2 business challenges. I emerged as a pioneer in Mobile UI/UX Design and Social Media Marketing, establishing enduring standards that continue to impact millions today. Through my consulting endeavors, I significantly influenced the business landscape, enabling companies to remain relevant and competitive in the ever-evolving digital realm.
In 2011, I had the privilege of joining the passionate team at Spotify. We shared a vision of harnessing the potential of tablets to revolutionize the music listening experience. Collaborating with designers, engineers, and user researchers, we aimed to create a cutting-edge digital stereo system and set new standards for user experience (UX), ultimately enhancing music discovery for millions of Spotify users worldwide. This project allowed me to contribute significantly to the music industry and redefine the way we engage with digital music today.
During that time, I also joined Adam Schneider's "20th Street Media" as an Art Director and Partner in the vibrant Bryant Park neighborhood of Upper Manhattan. At our UI/UX studio, we spearheaded numerous B2C and B2B e-commerce and web design projects, focusing on local businesses. Adam's exceptional project management skills and extensive local connections seamlessly integrated us into the bustling Manhattan business community.
I had the pleasure of mentoring the talented Victoria Artz in UI/UX Design, who now works as a Product Designer at Facebook. Our team worked on high-profile assignments for esteemed clients, including the McCann Agency, BMW, and Justin Timberlake My time at 20th Street Media instilled in me the significance of fostering a positive and serene office culture. Adam proved to be a true team player and exemplary role model. My involvement in B2C projects refined my communication skills and helped me forge meaningful connections with clients. However, as the partners at 20th Street Media became increasingly occupied with new ventures, we collectively decided to close the agency's doors in 2012.
In 2015, fate intervened, leading to an unexpected reunion with Adam Schneider that filled me with excitement and a sense of familiarity. This serendipitous encounter opened doors to several consultant contracts, where I embraced the roles of Senior Product Designer and Creative Director at the prestigious Tigerspike New York City office. It was a convergence of kindred spirits, where our talents and ambitions aligned perfectly. Working alongside a brilliant ensemble of colleagues, I had the privilege of revitalizing Tigerspike's UX Department under the exceptional leadership of Dominique Lee, the VP of UX. It was also a pleasure to collaborate with Aaron Gitlin, then an Experience Designer and now a Senior Product Designer at YouTube. Together, we explored the vast canvas of enterprise interfaces, crafting immersive experiences.
Tigerspike's meteoric rise and unwavering success captured the attention of Synnex Corporation, a titan in the industry. Recognizing the unparalleled value Tigerspike brought to the table, Synnex Corporation executed a momentous acquisition, acquiring Tigerspike for a staggering sum of US$68.5 million. This pivotal moment filled my heart with an overwhelming sense of pride and accomplishment, knowing that I played a small role in this remarkable success story.
While engaging in new contracts, I embarked on a passion project called ThemeCloud, which swiftly became a leading source for premium Adobe Muse themes and widgets. As a member of the Adobe Beta Program, I collaborated closely with Adobe and the Muse community, contributing to the movement toward code-free web design tools and recognizing Visual Developers as a serious profession.
In just a few years, ThemeCloud earned the trust of over 40,000 designers and amassed nearly one million downloads. Constantly creating, updating, and developing hundreds of themes and widgets, it was a bittersweet moment when we decided to close the shop in Q1 of 2018 due to Adobe's discontinuation of support for Adobe Muse. Nonetheless, the legacy of ThemeCloud endures, and I take immense pride in having contributed to the growth and success of Visual Developers as a respected profession.
As my career progressed, I grasped the vital importance of selecting the right platforms to build teams or businesses upon and the value of collaboration and communication with my teams, partners, and clients. This realization led me to embrace a collaborative mindset and adopt a decentralized leadership style, prioritizing character over resumes. By fostering a sense of teamwork and inclusivity, whether working in-house or remotely, I harness the unique strengths and expertise of my teams to create innovative and impactful solutions. Through trial and error, I discovered that these principles are keys to success.
